I am Funwayo (Foon-why-oh) Mafuleka (Mah-foo-lay-Kah) and I was called to be the pastor in October 2018.  I graduated from Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary with a Master of Divinity and Master of Theology in Preaching.  In my home country of Malawi I was a pastor at a baptist church for seven years.  My wife Victory and I have 3 children.

I enjoy sports and am learning to woodwork using a CNC machine.

  • Rachel & Jim Lavin

    Elders

Rachel:  I am a pilgrim on a journey, with a desire to serve the Lord, and to share His love and joy with others.  God has been constantly reshaping me, as the Potter shapes the clay, smoothing rough edges and building up. As His design, I am more trusting, less fearful of what lies ahead.

At MVC, I have seen the hospitality gift bless many, welcoming newcomers and longtime church goers each week. The Body that gathers has a heart for the Lord and each other.

Jim and I enjoy visiting others, bringing a smile, Christ's love and the gospel to the lonely.

Jim: I'm a sinner made useful by the trinitarian God through his son Jesus Christ and the Holy Spirit. Like other believers, I understand that I am being sanctified by the Holy Spirit in this life and this sanctification is completed in the next life. I enjoy worshipping at MVC with Rachel my wife. We have been married for 28 glorious years.

God has made me a new creature in Christ. “But as many, as received him, he gave the power to become the sons of God,” John 1:12. “If you abide in my word, you are my disciples indeed, and you shall know the truth and the truth shall make you free,” John 8:32

At MVC, I enjoy the atmosphere and the freedom in Christ among the people. “Where the spirit of the Lord is there is liberty,” (2 Corinthians 3:17).

I enjoy tennis and basketball as well as reading histories, and biographies, and studying the Bible.

I am a quiet and behind the scenes worker. I have a deep confidence that God is changing me little by little as he points out what is offensive in my actions or behavior. He knows everything about me and I trust him. I find truth and guidance in his word. I love the words of David in Psalm 139:23-4, “Search me, O God, and know my heart; test me and know my thoughts. Point out anything in me that offends you, and lead me along the path of everlasting life.”

I love MVC as a church and a community that made me feel welcome. It teaches the scripture, prays together and is a great place for making and building friendships to share kindness and encouragement with other believers. I enjoy helping others, being outside in the sunshine, yard work, gardening, and reading.

I had the privilege of being introduced to Jesus from early childhood and being nurtured in the faith at home and in the local church. Two of the things that have influenced me the most are the Word of God and the example of Christlike believers.

At a Christian camp, God began gradually directing my life toward missions, though such plans remained in the background for many years. It was an amazing thing to me when I recognized the clear call of God to prepare for missionary service and that my work turned out to be in Bible translation! Living in another culture with another language taught me a lot about the greatness and goodness of God and also about my own weaknesses and need for His help in every way.

Since retiring, I have been attending MVC and am especially inspired by those whose love for God is displayed in love for others and in faithful service to the Lord and His people. God has blessed me greatly and I am profoundly grateful.

I especially enjoy books, music, and observing the beauty of nature.

  • Esther Morales-DeJesus

    Office manager

I am an outgoing, honest, family-oriented, person.

I came to MVC when I was searching for a preschool for my daughter and nephew. During one of the parents' meetings, the pastor of the church came to introduce himself at the end of his introduction and said, "Remember that there is always a place for your family here at MVC and if you ever need anything the doors are open with no judgment." A few months later our family faced challenging times and I knew where to turn to for help from his words. I have seen God's hand on me ever since. Although I was a believer at the time, when I came to MVC I understood what it really meant to be God’s daughter.

I have had the privilege to be part of the staff of MVC as Church Office Manager and I have been in my role for 9 1/2 years!

I love all kinds of food and I love checking out new restaurants with different cuisines. I love shopping and I love a bargain, so I research almost everything before I make a purchase. I especially love spending time with my family. I am the youngest of 5 and my siblings and I are best friends.  It's my desire for my children to have the same close relationship so we spend A LOT of time together.
