I am Funwayo (Foon-why-oh) Mafuleka (Mah-foo-lay-Kah) and I was called to be the pastor in October 2018.  I graduated from Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary with a Master of Divinity and Master of Theology in Preaching.  In my home country of Malawi I was a pastor at a baptist church for seven years.  My wife Victory and I have 3 children.

I enjoy sports and am learning to woodwork using a CNC machine.

  • Rachel & Jim Lavin

    Elders

Rachel:  I am a pilgrim on a journey, with a desire to serve the Lord, and to share His love and joy with others.  God has been constantly reshaping me, as the Potter shapes the clay, smoothing rough edges and building up. As His design, I am more trusting, less fearful of what lies ahead.

At MVC, I have seen the hospitality gift bless many, welcoming newcomers and longtime church goers each week. The Body that gathers has a heart for the Lord and each other.

Jim and I enjoy visiting others, bringing a smile, Christ's love and the gospel to the lonely.

Jim: I'm a sinner made useful by the trinitarian God through his son Jesus Christ and the Holy Spirit. Like other believers, I understand that I am being sanctified by the Holy Spirit in this life and this sanctification is completed in the next life. I enjoy worshipping at MVC with Rachel my wife. We have been married for 28 glorious years.

God has made me a new creature in Christ. “But as many, as received him, he gave the power to become the sons of God,” John 1:12. “If you abide in my word, you are my disciples indeed, and you shall know the truth and the truth shall make you free,” John 8:32

At MVC, I enjoy the atmosphere and the freedom in Christ among the people. “Where the spirit of the Lord is there is liberty,” (2 Corinthians 3:17).

I enjoy tennis and basketball as well as reading histories, and biographies, and studying the Bible.

I am a quiet and behind the scenes worker. I have a deep confidence that God is changing me little by little as he points out what is offensive in my actions or behavior. He knows everything about me and I trust him. I find truth and guidance in his word. I love the words of David in Psalm 139:23-4, “Search me, O God, and know my heart; test me and know my thoughts. Point out anything in me that offends you, and lead me along the path of everlasting life.”

I love MVC as a church and a community that made me feel welcome. It teaches the scripture, prays together and is a great place for making and building friendships to share kindness and encouragement with other believers. I enjoy helping others, being outside in the sunshine, yard work, gardening, and reading.

    Office manager

I am an outgoing, honest, family-oriented, person.

I came to MVC when I was searching for a preschool for my daughter and nephew. During one of the parents' meetings, the pastor of the church came to introduce himself at the end of his introduction and said, "Remember that there is always a place for your family here at MVC and if you ever need anything the doors are open with no judgment." A few months later our family faced challenging times and I knew where to turn to for help from his words. I have seen God's hand on me ever since. Although I was a believer at the time, when I came to MVC I understood what it really meant to be God’s daughter.

I have had the privilege to be part of the staff of MVC as Church Office Manager and I have been in my role for 9 1/2 years!

I love all kinds of food and I love checking out new restaurants with different cuisines. I love shopping and I love a bargain, so I research almost everything before I make a purchase. I especially love spending time with my family. I am the youngest of 5 and my siblings and I are best friends.  It's my desire for my children to have the same close relationship so we spend A LOT of time together.

I grew up in a superstitious environment in Taiwan that was a mix of Taoism and Buddhism.  I never thought I would become a Christian until 1987, when I came to Texas and God quieted my heart, allowing me to understand that He is a true and living God.  In fact, God arranged many opportunities for me to know Him throughout my life, but my heart was hardened, and I couldn't see His work until hardship struck me.  Ever since 1987, God has time and time again shown me that He is a loving and powerful God who fully accepts and welcomes me.

When I moved to Medway in 2005 and searched for a church, I knew that the first time I walked through the door, this was the home God prepared for me.  Here, I felt welcomed, and when I encountered hardship, all the brothers and sisters in Christ did everything they could to care for me and help me, allowing me to better understand God's love through them.

In addition to music, I also enjoy photography and I am glad that I can use these two skills to serve the church.
